Orlen’s Power From Waste Water

On 12 December 2024 Orlen launched a new power plant supplied with treated waste water from its chief production facility in Płock. The plant will produce 800 MWh energy for ca. 400 households per year. The construction costed zł 3m ($ 750k) and the energy put in public grid will earn income at zł 0.5m per year. Water used in Orlen’s main production facility is taken from Vistula river. After usage it is treated in line with environmental standards and reused for fire protection and general purposes, the rest being discharged to the river. “So far energy available in sewage was simply wasted. Now thanks to the new hydro-power plant we can reuse it to produce green electricity. Improved usage of our assets is an important element of the concern’s energy transformation in sustainable development compliant with Orlen Group’s strategy” said Józef Węgrecki, Orlen Operations.
