CPK’s Building Permit For Łódź High Speed Rail Tunnel

On 17 January Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (or Solidarity Transport Hub) received building permit for 4.6 km high-speed rail tunnel in Łódź, the longest one in Poland. Last December CPK signed PLN 147 million contract with Budimex for this task. Works on other Łódź investments are underway, Keller Polska has been reinforcing foundations at Łódź Fabryczna railway station since last September at over PLN 93 million. “This is one of the most demanding sections of the Y high-speed railway line and at the same time our most advanced project” says Mikołaj Wild, CPK President. “Work is progressing consistently and on schedule. The technologies we are using will minimise the overall impact of construction on residents” says Radosław Kantak, CPK Rail Investments.

CPK project includes i.a. construction of high-speed railways from Warsaw to Łódź, Wrocław and Poznań, extension of A2 motorway and construction of the airport, the latter two to be opened together. Trips from Łódź to Poland’s largest cities will be faster: to Warsaw 45 min. (now 90 min.), to Wrocław and Poznań 70 min. (now 3 hours) and to CPK 30 min. Investments in Łódź region include construction of 219 km of new railways and modernisation of 305 km of existing ones. Construction of Warsaw-Łódź line will be funded by EU’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) at € 64 million.
