Government’s Green Light to Centralny Port Komunikacyjny

On 26 June at a press conference the PM Donald Tusk, the Minister with the Vice-Minister for Infrastructure and the Government’s Plenipotentiary announced continuation of Poland’s key infrastructural project Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK), also named Solidarity Transport Hub, started in 2018 and suspended after the parliamentary elections in October 2023 for the present government’s audits. CPK airport will be constructed 37 km west of Warsaw as the greatest CEE air, rail and road transport hub, from which the largest Polish cities can be reached in not more than 100 minutes thanks to construction of country-wide High-Speed Railways up to 320 km/h at total cost of $ 20b. The airport costing $ 10b is to be opened in 2032 to serve 60 million passengers per year. The PM Tusk announced construction of HSR firstly from CPK to Warsaw, Łódź, Poznań and Wrocław, and investments in Poland’s regional airports and LOT Polish Airlines. CPK’s strategic investor selected last year is the consortium of Vinci Airports, the world’s biggest private developer and operator of 70 airports in 14 countries, and IFM Investors managing $ 145 b infrastructural assets for 698 institutions. In 2023 the Master Architect of Foster Partners and Buro Happold presented their conceptual design of the airport terminals, transport interchange and railway station.
