Chopin Airport Sets New Historical Records

In Summer 2024 Chopin Airport broke five historical records serving in total over 6.5 million passengers from June to September. In June it broke the record of 2 million passengers per month. On 28 June nearly 75,000 travellers passed through the terminal breaking a daily record. In August another record was broken with over 471,000 travellers on chartered flights. In June cargo record of 10,000 tons was reached and in July it was broken with 10,107 tons, which was by 13% more than in July 2023. Chopin also launched new flights, by Polskie Linie Lotnicze LOT to Rijad and by Ethiopian Airlines to Addis Abeba. By the end of 2024 Air Arabia will also start flights to Sharjah (UAE).
In 2023 Chopin Airport served 18,5 million passengers and now plans to enlarge its terminal so as to increase the number of slots (starts/landings) from the present 600 to 800 per day. It is also a base for the Polish national airlines LOT developing rapidly in the last years with direct long-distance flights to US, Canada, China, Japan, South Korea and many European capitals. Now LOT has 81 airplanes but recently it also contracted 11 Boeings 737 Max 8 (186 seats) and sent requests to Embraer and Airbus concerning delivery of 84 more airplanes for Polish regional lines. LOT are also interested in buying the biggest Czech airline Smartwings with 37 Boeings 737.
