Hydrogen Bolide

Students from Kraków University of Technology have started tests of a bolide containing a hybrid hydrogen-electric engine. It was engineered in four months by 10 members of the Combustion Engines Science Club supervised by Łukasz Rodak Ph.D.Eng. at the Motor Vehicles Faculty. They constructed everything from the scratch based on many years’ research of the Faculty scientists who were the first in Poland to convert traditional combustion engines into hydrogen ones. The vehicle can be powered by any kind of hydrogen, including waste hydrogen recycled from chemical processes. Its engine is an adaptation of a traditional fuel engine and is practically emission-free. The hybrid system ensures optimum usage of energy produced by hydrogen and batteries, but also retrieved by braking. With fully charged batteries and full tank the bolide can ride up to 50 km at a maximum speed of 180 km/h.
