Mark Brzezinski appointed US ambassador to Poland

US Vice President Kamala Harris has nominated Marek Brzezinski as the US ambassador to Poland. This means that the US mission in Poland will soon be headed by Bix Aliu, Harris’s current chargé d’affaires.

The US Senate approved Brzezinski appointment in mid-December. A few days later, he met Marek Magierowski – the Polish ambassador to the US.

“Our two new ambassadors after the first meeting in Washington are ready to work to further strengthen and intensify our historically strong, mutual ties! Good luck to both of you,” wrote Aliu.

Brzezinski is a lawyer and diplomat by education. He speaks Polish and French. He is the son of Zbigniew Brzeziński, former national security adviser to President Jimmy Carter.

As part of the Fullbright scholarship, he wrote the work “Fight for constitutionalism in Poland.” In 2009, for his activities on behalf of Poland he was awarded the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland.

During the tenure of Barack Obama, he was the US ambassador to Sweden. He was earlier a director in the National Security Council, dealing with Russia, when Bill Clinton was in the White House. In the 2020 election, he advised Joe Biden.
