Centralny Port Komunikacyjny – CPK (also called Solidarity Transport Hub) has launched a tender for design, delivery and implementation of the Baggage Handling System (BHS) for CPK airport to be erected 37 km west of Warsaw. Applications may be filed by 12 February and CPK invites companies that in the last 25 years have launched BHS in airports with yearly capacity of over 30 million passengers. BHS is the heart of every airport ensuring not only quick baggage transfer, but also minimum losses. To reduce the number of losses CPK has reviewed solutions used at its strategic advisor Incheon Airport in Seoul, South Korea, where rates for lost baggage amount to only one in a million.
CPK airport expected to cost about € 8b will be the greatest CEE hub integrating air, rail and road transport to reach the largest Polish cities in less than 2.5 hours. According to IATA, it may serve 40 million passengers per year by 2040 with two runways operational in 2028. Its strategic investor is Vinci Airports and IFM Global Infrastructure Fund, the master architect is Foster Partners and Buro Happold, the master civil engineer is Dar (Lebanon–US) and the airport systems integrator is IDOM (Spain). Works are on schedule, the concept design of the passenger terminal was presented in July 2023 (photo). CPK also intends to construct 2000 km of new railways in Poland.
