Aid to earthquake victims in Türkiye

Poland Weekly expresses its solidarity with all those who suffered as a result of devastating earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria. At the request of His Excellency Cengiz Kamil Fırat, the Ambassador of Türkiye in Poland, below we publish information about collection of aid for the victims.

On February 6, two devastating earthquakes hit southeast of Türkiye. The first one had a 7.7 magnitude and its epicenter was in Pazarcık district of Kahramanmaraş province. The second one had a 7.6 magnitude and its epicenter was in Elbistan, another district of the same province. The two earthquakes are followed by 2.412 aftershocks.

The earthquakes have affected a vast area with a total population of 13,5 million people. The following 10 provinces were hit by the earthquakes: Kahramanmaraş, Hatay, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Diyarbakır, Adana, Adıyaman, Osmaniye, Malatya and Elazığ. Turkish Parliament declared a three-month state of emergency in those provinces.

According to the latest information received from the Ministry of Health, a total of 29.605 citizens lost their lives and 80.278 are injured.

Turkish state mobilized all its emergency response capabilities. These ongoing rescue efforts in quake-stricken areas are complemented by international support. Many governments are dispatching medical/rescue personnel, funds and equipment. We are coordinating incoming international aid.

A total of 34.717 search & rescue staff are working in the earthquake zone. As of 12 February 2023 (16.30), 99 countries offered assistance. 9.595 foreign search & rescue personnel from 74 countries are on the ground. 874 foreign personnel are expected to arrive. 8 more countries are expected to send teams.
