Chinese EV boom and its impact on the European market

Are you passionate about the e-mobility sector? Dive into our latest interview where Sylwia Ziemacka sits down with Filip Materek, Senior Battery Consultant, and Junhyuk Choi, Project Manager at Alexec Consulting, to explore the competitive dynamics between Europe and China in the electric vehicle (EV) industry.

The overall EV market was established around 12 years ago, with the premiere of Tesla Roadster. But, for the last 4 or 5 years, there has been significant growth in the market, specifically in Europe and China, followed by the United States. The last four years and in particular since the pandemic have been really critical for this sector as the ramp up of new e-vehicle sales has really increased.

In 2023, there were 14 million e-vehicles (fully battery electric vehicles and plug in hybrid electric vehicles). And this accounted for 18% of total new vehicles. 95% of those vehicles were sold in China, Europe and the United States. China is currently leading the way. It has already achieved 40% of new vehicle sales as EVs.
