Longest Polish Railway Tunnel

Construction of the longest Polish railway tunnel between Męcina and Mordarka started in mid-year will revolutionise accessibility of Małopolska region. 3.8 km long structure costing zł 2b ($ 0.5b) will enable passengers to travel at 160 km/h and cargo at 100 km/h. It is now accompanied by other local investments, like construction of a railway bridge on Dunajec river in Nowy Sącz, flyover in Klęczany and other new railway and road bridges. Travelling time from Kraków Centre to Zakopane will be shortened to 90 minutes. All these investments included in the National Railway Programme will restore railway connections of many locations in the region stimulating its industry and tourism. Modernisation of Nowy Sącz railroad will also enable development of large scale rail transport of intermodal and combined cargo in RFC 11 “Amber” corridor Baltic Sea – Balkans – Black Sea.
