How the Delivery Sector is Powering the Polish Economy
Glovo, Poland’s leading delivery platform, has released its latest Yellow Effect Report, revealing that in 2023 its activities—and those of its partners—generated an Economic Value Added (EVA) equivalent to nearly 2.5 billion złoty and secured over 9,000 jobs. That impact rivals the annual budget of a major Polish city, underscoring the vital role of digital platforms in driving economic growth and supporting businesses.
In its Yellow Effect Report, developed by the research platform Statista, Glovo showcased its substantial economic contribution. In 2023, the company and its partners generated an EVA of 552 million euros in Poland. This metric captures the total financial impact on the economy, accounting for both direct effects—such as the value generated in the gastronomy and transportation sectors—and indirect benefits stemming from collaborations with suppliers and manufacturers.
Glovo’s impressive results are built on a powerful chain of collaboration. Restaurants, grocery stores, florists, and other service providers all contribute to a network that fuels the local economy. “Data from multiple independent sources indicate that we are currently the market leader in Poland. We are growing dynamically not only in the restaurant order segment, but also in grocery shopping and retail across various categories,” emphasizes Sacha Michaud, co-founder and Vice President of Glovo. He adds, “We want to support the entire ecosystem in which we operate – we help our partners develop their digital presence and achieve success in a challenging market environment. As a result, we are not just a platform but also a long-term business partner, helping to reach new customers, boost revenues, and build brand recognition.”
The report also highlights Glovo’s significant impact on employment. In 2023, the collaboration between Glovo and its partners contributed to securing 9,032 full-time equivalent jobs, with the greatest gains seen in the gastronomy and transportation sectors. This job creation is a crucial boost for the Polish labor market, especially amid ongoing economic challenges.
Moreover, over 90% of Glovo’s active partners are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). For many, selling through Glovo marks their first foray into e-commerce. According to the SME & Partner Impact Survey, 79% of Glovo’s partners in Poland regard the collaboration as essential to their success. With the platform’s technological support, these businesses have increased their average monthly sales by 26%, often spurring further investments in areas such as social media presence.
Looking ahead to 2024 and 2025, Glovo continues to invest in expanding its delivery services. The company is set to further develop the rapid delivery of groceries, home appliances, and specialized products like flowers and cosmetics. “Glovo is a platform that connects various market sectors, supporting local communities and the broader economy. Our aim is for every partner to grow through our collaboration,” emphasizes Adam Skrzypek, General Manager of Glovo in Poland.
Through its innovative approach and robust partnership network, Glovo is not only reshaping the delivery industry but also playing a pivotal role in powering the Polish economy.
