The new temporary exhibition at the National Museum in Warsaw is dedicated to one of the most esteemed painters in the history of Polish art. Józef Chełmoński’s images of nature, views of the countryside and scenes from village life, for over a hundred years now have been considered the essence of “Polishness” in the paintings from the late 19th and early 20th century. Chełmoński created independently of any movement – by following his instinct and intuition. His exceptional perceptiveness allowed him to capture and preserve even the most ephemeral impressions. The exhibition crowns the joint research project of the National Museums in Warsaw, Poznań and Kraków, and will be open from September 27 until January 26, 2025.
