Łódź High Speed Railway Tunnel

Centralny Pork Komunikacyjny (CPK) has received five offers to construct railway tunnel 4.6 km long under Łódź as part of High-Speed Railway (HSR) from Warsaw to Wroclaw and Poznań, the so-called “Y”. This will be the longest railway tunnel in Poland and also the broader one (14 m diameter) made in TBM technology in history. Potential contractors are from Poland, Turkey and Chinese. The contract worth zł 2.8 billion (540 million) is to be signed in the 2nd half of 2025 and digging works are expected to last from 2026 to 2028. As the tunnel will be positioned under densely populated city centre, the contractor will be required to re-examine land and possible risks in accordance with the contract specifications terms containing about 2 thousand documents, to which about a thousand queries were filed by a total 25 potential stakeholders. The successful contractor will be required to complete the works in 46 months. CPK airport will be constructed 37 km west of Warsaw as the greatest CEE air, rail and road transport hub, from which the largest Polish cities can be reached in not more than 100 minutes thanks to construction of country-wide High-Speed Railways up to 320 km/h at total cost of $ 20b. The airport costing $ 10b is to be opened in 2032 to serve 60 million passengers per year.
